The North Carolina School Boards Association seeks a high energy candidate to join its team. The successful candidate will be highly responsible when dealing with confidential work as the administrative support to the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and other officials of the North Carolina School Boards Association. In addition, the candidate will prepare special publications for distribution to the membership and spearhead the association’s social media presence.

NCSBA is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that represents the 115 school boards in the state and the board of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. Our mission is to support the board’s work through advocacy, leadership training, and tailored services that focus on the governance point of view. The Communications/Board Services Specialist will be an integral force that keeps various segments of the membership connected to and informed about events and activities happening at the association.

Key duties will include:

  • Screening communications and maintaining calendar and appointments for the Executive Director

  • Coordinating board and committee meetings for the NCSBA Board of Directors to include preparing digital meeting agenda packets, making travel arrangements, and administering meeting minutes

  • Administering the association’s awards program

  • Composing and assembling content for the association’s various digital publications to include a monthly newsletter, annual report, speeches, press releases, and articles

  • Engaging the public through intentional social media campaigns that promotes and supports the mission of the association

The successful candidate will possess strong skills in the following areas:

  • Time management and ability to meet deadlines

  • Verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask

  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications and social media platforms

  • Strong editing skills

Experience and Requirements

  • This position requires the candidate to be physically present at the association’s office in Raleigh, NC

  • Candidate should have a bachelor’s degree and experience in publication design, communication work and editing; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license
